The ambient pride of the Zulu people loomed in the air as special guests along with members of the media filled the venue on Tuesday night dressed in their best interpretation of African Royalty at Thorn Tree, Ludwigsdorf. As always, the Multi Choice Namibia Advertising agency, Ogilvy, understood the brief and the execution as always was exceptional.  The venue, the deco, the invite list, the entertainment, echoed what makes us proudly African.

A-listers such as NSK, Gazza, Cassia Sharpley, Robyn Nakaambo, Adriano Visagie and so many more graced the black carpet.

As per conversations with Elzita Beukes, Head of Corporate Affairs at Multi Choice Namibia she revealed that this epic 12-part production, which was six years in the making, before hitting our screens on the 18th of June 2023.

It follows the original story of the legendary African monarch and military strategist, King Shaka. A movie I remember as a young girl watching over and over again because it was one of the few DVD’s that we had at home, and I was always fascinated by King Shaka and how strong and bold her was. The story captured my heart and I have fond memories sitting on the floor in my aunt’s room watching it with neighbors.

This series features great talents in the film industry that most of us are familiar with, but the spotlight was on Nomzamo Mbatha, who plays King Shaka’s beloved mother, Queen Nandi.  A role that she has manifested for since she was a young girl. In an interview that I had with her she revealed how Nandi stole her heart and she embodied it so well. Words will fail me if I try to explain it. It was just wholesome. She was born for that role.

We had the opportunity to view the first episode and throughout the first episode of Shaka Ilembe, the cast embodied their characters with depth and authenticity, captivating the audience from the very beginning. Their portrayal showcased a remarkable range of emotions, and the attention to detail added layers of depth to the roles, making it both relatable and unforgettable.

The performance that was portrayed in this series has touched the hearts of the audience, evoking genuine empathy and leaving a lasting impression. Their talent and hard work has truly set a new standard in the realm of acting, inspiring others to reach for greatness. Be ready to be inspired for sure with this one. This production EMBODIED AFRICAN ROYALTY…

Shaka Ilembe has left me longing to fall in love with a Zulu King lol.

In the words of Nomzamo, lets celebrate our stories more and tell our own stories our own way every chance we get.

UJobe wenze kahle, Multi Choice.

Love
