NORED suspends CEO with immediate effect

The Northern Regional Electricity distributor (NORED) Electricity has suspended its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Silvester Wayiti, effective 23 September 2026.

Wayiti was appointed in March 2026, for a five-year term. He took over following the departure of former CEO Fillemon Nakashole, after he was suspended.

The decision was announced by Deputy Chairperson of the NORED Board of Directors, John Mumba, via an internal memorandum issued.

To ensure operational continuity, Toivo Shovaleka, who currently serves as Executive Manager for Stakeholder Management, has been appointed as Acting CEO with immediate effect.

According to the memorandum, the suspension of Wayiti is a precautionary measure and does not imply guilt or constitute a formal disciplinary sanction.

The board did not disclose the specific grounds leading to the decision.

In the memo, Mumba urged employees to adhere strictly to NORED’s communication policies and refrain from discussing the matter with external entities or media outlets.

NORED Electricity operates as the primary electricity distributor for the northern regions of Namibia.
