NamPol to lead nationwide consultation on new drug Bill

todayNovember 6, 2026

Background

Cabinet has approved, in principle, the proposed Combating of Narcotic, Psychoactive Drugs and Substance Bill of 2026, which seeks to strengthen controls on illicit drugs and address the unregulated supply of toxic chemical inhalants. The Namibian Police have been authorised to lead a nationwide 60-day public and stakeholder consultation process on the proposed legislation. After the consultation, NamPol will incorporate public submissions and return the revised Bill to Cabinet before it proceeds to the Cabinet Committee on Legislation. The proposed law also seeks to address newer synthetic psychoactive substances and industrial chemical inhalants, which are not adequately covered by older drug control legislation.
