How are you doing today?? xx

Teachers’ Day is more than a day to say “thank you.” It is a moment to pause and remember the incredible people who spend their lives shaping the future of our children and, ultimately, the future of Namibia.

Every morning, across our beautiful country, teachers walk into classrooms carrying more than books, lesson plans and marking pens. They carry responsibility. They carry hope. And sometimes, they carry the worries and challenges of their own lives while still finding the strength to show up for their learners.

A teacher may begin the day teaching mathematics, English, science or history, but often the most important lessons happen beyond the curriculum.

It is the teacher who notices when a normally cheerful learner becomes quiet.

It is the teacher who says, “I believe in you,” when a young person has stopped believing in themselves.

It is the teacher who stays behind to explain something one more time.

It is the teacher who celebrates a small improvement that nobody else noticed.

And sometimes, it is simply the teacher who listens.

We often remember our favourite teachers not because we remember every lesson they taught, but because we remember how they made us feel.

We remember the teacher who encouraged us to dream bigger. The one who saw potential in us before we could see it ourselves. The one whose words stayed with us long after we left the classroom.

That is the quiet power of teaching.

Teachers don’t simply educate children. They help shape confidence, character, dreams and possibilities. They contribute to the kind of citizens our communities and our country will become.

Of course, teaching is not always easy. There are crowded classrooms, demanding workloads, limited resources, administrative responsibilities and learners facing challenges that cannot be solved with a textbook.

Yet, despite it all, teachers continue to show up.

They teach.

They encourage.

They guide.

They correct.

They care.

And they keep going.

So today, to every teacher in Namibia from the cities to the villages, from the north to the south, from the youngest teacher beginning their journey to those who have spent decades in the classroom we want you to know something:

Your work matters.

The learner you encouraged today may become tomorrow’s doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, artist, farmer, scientist, leader or teacher.

The child you helped when they were struggling may one day look back and realise that your kindness changed the direction of their life.

You may not always see the results immediately, but seeds take time to grow.

And teachers are seed planters.

On this Teachers’ Day, may we not only celebrate teachers with words, flowers or social media posts. May we also support them, respect their profession, listen to their experiences and recognise the enormous responsibility placed in their hands.

To all our teachers: thank you for believing in our children. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you for showing up, even on the difficult days.

To every teacher from Oshakati to Keetmanshoop, Rundu to Windhoek, Katima Mulilo to Lüderitz, and every village, town, and community in between thank you for helping to build Namibia, one learner at a time.

HAPPY TEACHERS DAY.

Much Love,

Shai_Quan
