How happy are you today??
Today, we had and interview with Dr. Aminata Yandeh Sallah and she reminded me of something so profound that I wanted to share with you…
As a parent, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of daily responsibilities, caring for your kids, managing the household, and fulfilling work obligations. But in the midst of all this, it’s essential to remember one simple but powerful truth: You cannot pour from an empty cup.
Think of it like the safety instructions on an airplane. In case of emergency, we’re advised to put our own oxygen mask on first before helping others. The logic behind this advice is simple: if we’re unable to breathe, we cannot assist those around us. The same goes for parenting. If you’re running on empty, overwhelmed, and burnt out, it’s nearly impossible to be the kind of parent you want to be.
Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s necessary. When you make your well-being a priority, you’re better equipped to handle the ups and downs of parenting with patience and grace. Whether it’s taking a few moments each day to practice mindfulness, scheduling regular exercise, or simply carving out time for a hobby, self-care isn’t just about relaxation; it’s about maintaining your physical, emotional, and mental health.
Self-care helps you reset and recharge so you can show up as the best version of yourself for your children. Remember, your children benefit from a healthy, well-rested, and happy parent just as much as they benefit from your love and guidance.
So, the next time you feel guilty for taking a break, remind yourself: You are worthy of care. In prioritizing your own health, you’re not only nurturing yourself but also providing a positive example for your kids, teaching them the importance of balance and self-love.
Much Love,
Shai_Quan xx
