A 17-year-old female learner and a 19-year-old male were arrested in Keetmanshoop after being found in possession of counterfeit currency totaling more than N$72 000.

According to the police, the case came to light when the teenage learner from J.A. van Niekerk Secondary School attempted to purchase chips during the school’s entrepreneurship day using counterfeit notes amounting to N$400.

Fellow learners quickly noticed that one of the N$200 notes was fake and reported the matter to a teacher.

When questioned, the suspect revealed she had received the money from her boyfriend and disclosed that more counterfeit cash was kept at their house.

A police search uncovered fake notes worth N$50 800 and R21 400, bringing the total amount seized to N$72 200.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 September 2025.

Police investigations are ongoing.
