SWAPO Recalls Oniipa Mayor for Independent Bid

The SWAPO Party has recalled Oniipa Mayor Jafet Augustus after he registered to run as an Independent candidate in the upcoming elections. In a report by Maria Namupala, Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa confirmed his removal and ex-communication from all party positions, instructing regional coordinator Armas Amukwiyu to arrange his immediate replacement. By choosing to run independently, Augustus effectively self-excommunicated under Article 6 (1)(a) of the party constitution, highlighting SWAPO’s strict stance on members contesting outside the party.
