As per the month of July, electricity prices have increased adding to the problems consumers have to face as they try to keep up with the high cost of living. The tariff increases took effect in July, as approved by the ECB (electricity control board), this hike is seen all over the country and currently stands as followes:
- Erongo regional electricity distributor – 9%
- Central-Northern regional Electricity distributor – 7.6%
- Nampower- 9.2%
- Nord – 9.8%
- Omaheke regional council – 3.3%
- Cenored-Okahandja – 7.3%
Other parts of the country are also looking for a tariff hike and applied quite late, approval is still pending for the following:
- City of windhoek- 14%
- kalkrand villsge council- 25%
- Keetmashoop municipality- 8%
- mariental municipality- 9.9%
- Osire powerplant- 12.3%
- Oshakati Premier Electric- 10%
With this rise, Residents in WalvisBay will have to pay NAD500 to purchase only 175.60 units of electricity.
