Group Strategy Director at the Pupkewitz Group of Companies, Andrea Barry
The Pupkewitz Group is marking a historic milestone this week as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, cementing its place as one of Namibia’s most respected and enduring business institutions.
Founded in 1925 by Max and Anna Pupkewitz, what began as a modest trading business in Windhoek has evolved into a diversified enterprise with interests across automotive, construction, technology, and retail sectors.
Andrea Barry, Group Strategy Director at the Pupkewitz Group of Companies and great-granddaughter of the founders, described the centenary as not only a corporate achievement but a personal moment.
“This day is also deeply personal: it would have been my grandfather Harold Pupkewitz’s 110th birthday,” Barry said. “Alongside his brothers, Morris and Julius, he dedicated his life to building this Group with unwavering belief in Namibia and its people.”
In honour of Harold Pupkewitz’s legacy of philanthropy and community investment, the Pupkewitz Foundation is expected to announce a special pledge reaffirming its commitment to nation-building and social upliftment. For decades, Harold was known for offering quiet donations to social causes on his birthday, a tradition that the company intends to continue and scale.

Barry paid tribute to the company’s staff, past and present, saying that their dedication and service have powered the Group’s success over the decades. “This celebration belongs to you,” she wrote in a statement shared on social media.
The Group joins a select league of African companies to reach the century mark, a testament to both its resilience and adaptability amid shifting economic landscapes and global disruptions.
