Following controversy around a Chinese-backed lithium project, the Namibian government has banned exports of unprocessed critical mineral exports in a bid to encourage the development of more domestic processing. Earlier this year Zimbabwe did the same thing, and according to its government they believe they have the largest amount of the mineral in Africa, so much that they have enough of it to supply a fifth of the world’s needs.
According to a research report conducted by the research and analysis division of The Economist Group, the sister company to The Economist newspaper, Economist Intelligence Unit, they beg to differ.
