One Africa celebrates 22 years of storytelling: Namflix Festival 2025 launches in Windhoek to celebrate local film and TV

Windhoek, Namibia – 11 November 2025, The Namflix Festival 2025 officially launched today in Windhoek, marking the third instalment of the annual event dedicated to promoting local film and television. Hosted by OneAfrica TV in partnership with Future Media, the festival provides a platform for local storytellers to show their work to national audiences.

Speaking at the launch, MultiChoice Namibia CEO Roger Gertze highlighted the importance of supporting local talent. “MultiChoice Namibia is excited to partner with Future Media and OneAfrica to bring the acclaimed 2024 Ombura Project films to all Namibians during the 2025 Namflix Festival,” he said, noting that for the first time, the films will be accessible to all GOtv and DStv subscribers nationwide.

The launch gathered the country’s leading film and TV creatives, celebrating 22 years of OneAfrica TV’s commitment to homegrown content. Station Manager and Future Media Marketing Manager Zellmari Brandt outlined the channel’s achievements over the past eight months, including the release of 34 new pieces of content, such as the sports talk show Final Whistle, the South African soapie Suidooster, and Omukuluntu’s News, a satirical Oshiwambo news show. The channel also broadcast national events, including the historic cricket win over South Africa on 11 October 2025.

OneAfrica has also strengthened its focus on educational content through the LearnOnOne platform, launching shows like God of Women and Behind the School Doors. The organisation awarded 11 scholarships to NUST students for children’s TV scriptwriting and formed partnerships with Ubongo Kids (Tanzania) and the Mosaic Film Association (USA).

The impact of these initiatives has been significant. Since merging with Future Media, OneAfrica reported a 33.5% increase in audience size and a 142% surge in engagement, generating over 8 million media plays across multiple platforms.

Creative entrepreneur and film actress Lavinia Kapewasha, a Namflix alumna, praised the initiative for providing access to audiences and inspiring a new generation of storytellers.

The 2025 Namflix Festival will run from 16 November 2025 to 19 January 2026, featuring ten full-length features, two short series, and several short films, offering Namibians an extensive look at the nation’s creative talent.
