The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, on Friday officiated the unveiling ceremony renaming the Onandjokwe Endoscopic Unit after Professor Fillemon Amaambo, reports Maria Namupala.
In her remarks, Dr. Luvindao emphasized the importance of celebrating and honouring individuals for their contributions while they are still alive, describing the gesture as a token of appreciation for Professor Amaambo’s decades-long dedication to advancing healthcare.
“We often value and honour people when they die; however, it is important to recognize and appreciate them while they are alive,” Luvindao said.
She highlighted that Professor Amaambo has been part of the endoscopic team since 1980, having trained numerous medical officers and surgeons who continue to deliver vital endoscopic services at Onandjokwe Hospital.
“As the leadership of the Ministry, we will continue to support initiatives that ensure reliable, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all Namibians. Smart partnerships like this are essential in achieving that goal,” she added.
The renaming ceremony also marked the conclusion of the Onandjokwe Endoscopic Tour, a biannual medical outreach conducted at selected district hospitals across Namibia.
