The Namibian Police are investigating a rape allegation involving a former Cabinet minister who is now serving as a Member of Parliament. A 27-year-old woman—identified as the mother of the MP’s child—filed the complaint on 14 July 14 alleging that the incident occurred on 21 March 2025, in Windhoek. Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed that the case was registered under the Combating of Rape Act.

Although the accused, according to the Namibia Press Agency, is no longer in the Cabinet, he retains his parliamentary seat. The complaint was reportedly submitted to authorities after the complainant approached police with detailed allegations, prompting the official registration of a case.

The case falls under the Combating of Rape Act of 2000, which outlines legal definitions and enforcement powers for both rape and related offences in Namibia. Deputy Commissioner Mubebo said that the investigation is ongoing and will proceed without interference.

This development echoes past high-profile controversies in local politics involving allegations of sexual violence and abuse of office. Earlier this year, agriculture minister Mac-Albert Hengari resigned after he was accused of rape and other serious offences; his arrest followed alleged attempts to bribe the victim to withdraw charges. That incident heightened public scrutiny over accountability for public servants.

Namibian Police have pledged to handle the case with impartiality and transparency. Authorities face pressure to demonstrate due process, protect the victim’s rights, and set a precedent for how allegations against public officials are managed.
