MTC expands 5G to five more towns

Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has expanded its 5G network to five additional towns, as the telecommunications company continues to strengthen its network capacity across the country. 

The latest expansion connects Grootfontein, Mariental, Okahandja, Otjiwarongo and Tsumeb to 5G, following the successful introduction of the technology in Namibia in 2025. 

The expansion forms part of MTC’s second phase of 5G deployment, which includes the rollout of 19 new network sites across nine regions. 

According to MTC, eight sites are being deployed in Erongo, four in Kavango West, and one each in //Kharas, Kavango East, Khomas, Kunene, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa regions. 

The company said the rollout is also strengthening its existing 5G network in Windhoek and Walvis Bay, as it responds to growing demand for mobile data and network services.
