Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo has appointed Commissioner Johanna Ngondo as the first female commander of the Khomas police.
Ngondo’s appointment is effective from 01 November.
Similarly, Shikongo reassigned Commissioner Willem Steenkamp from his current position as Khomas regional commander to serve as an advisor in the office of the Inspector General.
Steenkamp takes over the position previously held by Ngondo.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Shikongo commended Ngondo for her exemplary service.
He said Ngondo’s appointment to lead Khomas region marks another important step of women in senior command positions. “Her professional, integrity and extensive experience reflect the highest standards of policing leadership, and she continues to inspire many within and beyond our institution,” remarked Shikongo.
Ngondo was previously appointed as the first female regional commander for the Kavango East Region, where she served for 10 years before being transferred to the Office of the Inspector General as a special advisor.
