The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has strongly criticized Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa’s decision to dissolve the Katima Mulilo Town Council.
The party argues that the move, carried out under Section 92 of the Local Authorities Act, undermines constitutional principles, weakens democratic governance, and risks creating a dangerous precedent for political interference in local authorities.
IPC spokesperson Immanuel Nashinge said the decision raises concerns about the protection of democracy at the local level, urging the government to respect due process and allow elected councils to serve their mandates.
The controversy has sparked debate about the balance between ministerial oversight and the autonomy of local authorities in Namibia’s governance system.
