Germany has begun funding the renovation of the Alte Feste, Windhoek’s oldest historical building on Robert Mugabe Avenue with N$4.2 million through its Cultural Preservation Programme.

The support launches a new phase focusing on repairs to the West and North Wings and the courtyard, led by the Joint Initiative of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture and Namibia Art, Craft and Design.

German Embassy Minister Counsellor Florian Seitz said: “We are delighted to see the start of this new phase of work on the Alte Feste and applaud our Namibian and international partners for their initiative to turn it into a vibrant place with multiple purposes.”

The restored building will later host the Namibia Craft Centre and the future National Genocide Museum.
