The Broadcast Media Awards – Southern Africa 2025 steering committee has announced the finalists across multiple categories, spotlighting top performers across broadcasting, content creation, and digital media sectors in the region.
According to Broadcast Media Africa, nominees include media executives such as David Tiltman (Africa Media Entertainment) and Comfort Mbofana (Zimpapers) for “Media Executive of the Year — Male,” and Minenhle Dlamini (Gagasi FM) and Mary Lusiba (BBC Kenya) for the female equivalent.
Other standout categories with finalists include Best Local TV Content, Best Local Radio Content, Best OTT/Streaming Service, and Satellite Operator of the Year.
In the Best Local Content Range on Radio category, the shortlist features Voice of Wits (South Africa), Sputnik Africa (Russia), and three Namibian stations—Omulunga Radio, Fresh FM, and Nova 103.5—all part of Future Media. The group operates Radiowave, Omulunga Radio, Fresh FM, Nova 103.5, and 99FM, alongside Future Media News and OneAfrica Television, making it the country’s largest independent broadcast network.

The winners will be announced on 29 October 2025 at the awards ceremony hosted at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe.
Future Media’s leadership in Namibia’s broadcast industry reflects its local roots and cross-platform oomph. As Future Media CEO Gary Stroebel noted in The Media Online (27 September 2023), “If the NBC owns the provinces, then Future Media is the undisputed radio leader in urban Namibia. A portfolio of four national commercial radio formats and a highly respected network news brand provides a modern commercial platform that reaches around 205,000 more urban listeners than the NBC” (Safland, 2019, cited in Stroebel, 2023).
Stroebel added that “Radiowave, Omulunga and Fresh FM are all more than 18 years old, serving a high LSM audience between 18-45 years old. Omulunga is the largest commercial radio station in the country, and Radiowave is the dominant Adult Contemporary brand.” He further cited a GeoPoll survey showing that “the FM network boasts a higher cumulative audience reach than the NBC in the LSM 5–10 segment, around 90%, albeit with audience overlap.”

“NOVA 103.5, launched in 2020 during lockdown, has grown into one of the country’s top seven stations,” Stroebel said, noting its mix of “trusted business reporting, specialist agricultural content, and BBC sport coverage.”
With multiple Future Media stations recognised regionally, Namibia’s broadcasters continue to demonstrate the country’s creative and commercial strength in Southern Africa’s evolving media landscape.
