Tsap Fresh Family,
We are back with your favorite personalities in the land. We continue celebrating and appreciating our stars and shining some extra light on them on Fresh Personality of the week. While doing so, we also get to know them on a more personal level and finding out some interesting facts about them. You gonna love this, we are being friends with them for a few minutes.
This week we get upclose and personal with Dj Vuyo. The Dorado hitmaker shares his musical backgrounds, new project, his many names and so much more
Fresh: What do your friends call you?
Dj Vuyo: Most people call me DJ Vuyo, but the close circle calls me Vuyo or Don or Mushe. Depends on how long you’ve known me.
Fresh: Where did you grow up, and what’s a fond memory from there?
Dj Vuyo: I grew up in Katima Mulilo Zambezi baby! One of my fondest memories is watching my dad make furniture while singing old songs. That rhythm stuck with me. It’s actually what inspired me to make music.
Fresh: When’s your special day?
Dj Vuyo: March 23rd. I’m an Aries headstrong, passionate, and always chasing my next idea.
Fresh: How would you describe what you do ?
Dj Vuyo: I’m an Afro-fusion artist and producer repping Namibia hard. I mix traditional Namibian vibes with global sounds. I make culture dance.
Fresh: What sparked your passion for your career? Any unexpected twists?
Dj Vuyo: Music started early for me. My dad sang while working, and I picked up the vibe. By 2010, I was already producing music. The big moment came around 2015 when I realized, this is it this is what I’m meant to do. From there, it’s been full speed.
Fresh: Any achievements or projects you’re super proud of?
Dj Vuyo: I’ve released several albums Monica, Cousin, Jealousy, Namibia 2 The World, and my latest project 30/6. Working with legends like Tate Buti, TopCheri, Page, and crossing borders with features like Yo Maps, Vinchenzo M’bale and Rich Bizzy… that’s been big for me. Oh, and when “Dorado” hit a million streams and won song of the year that was a proud one for me.
Fresh: When you’re not working, what are you up to? Any hobbies or secret talents?
Dj Vuyo: I’m either producing for other artists or just vibing out in studio. If I’m not working, I’m probably brainstorming my next move. I live for music, really.
Fresh: Which song is on repeat for you right now?
Dj Vuyo: Right now? I’m bumping Problem my own joint, fresh off the 30/6 EP. Gotta test my own medicine!
Fresh: Any favorite shows or movies you’re currently binge-watching?
Dj Vuyo: I am a big series and movie guy, but I’ll binge a good documentary or live performance show. Gotta stay inspired.
Fresh: What’s something you enjoy that might surprise people?
Dj Vuyo: Sleeping in on days I promised myself I’d be productive.
Fresh: If you could work with any artist or personality, who would it be?
Dj Vuyo: If there’s one artist I’d drop everything to work with, it’s Davido. Not just because he’s a global hitmaker, but because of what he represents for the entire African music scene. He’s more than an artist he’s a movement.
Fresh: Do you have a personal mantra or quote you live by?
Dj Vuyo: Unity through music. Always. I believe music should bring us together across languages, cultures, and borders.
Fresh: Any events, releases, or projects on the horizon we should know about?
Dj Vuyo: I’ve got more music loading! We just dropped 30/6, but I’m not slowing down. Look out for visuals, live shows, and some crazy collabs in the next few months. Let’s go global.
Fresh: What’s one fun fact about you?
Dj Vuyo: I speak Sifwe proudly! You’ll hear bits of it in my songs. I’m always about putting the north and Namibia on the map.
