….AND THE WINNER IS!
Fresh FM, hosted its first annual Fresh FM Song of the Year (SOTY) Awards on January 26th, 2024, at Ecetera. The event aimed to recognise and reward outstanding local musical achievements within the country.
Listeners were asked to vote for their favorite song out of a selection of 10 tracks, which were judged by the station to have received the most support from Fresh FM listeners. These songs were released between January and November 2023. Voting was conducted via the Fresh FM WhatsApp competition line.
The winner of the Song of the Year award was Ms Gideon’s “Jehova.” The track captured the hearts of the listeners with its musical excellence and meaningful lyrics, securing its place as the top song of the year.
Distinguished individuals from various sectors attended the event, including Emma Theofilus, Deputy Minister of ICT; Gary Stroebel, Fresh FM CEO; Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, Telecom CEO; and Albert Nicanor, CEO of NASCAM. Renowned artists like Gazza, Tswazis, Ethnix, and Waters also graced the occasion, adding to the excitement and glamour.
The nominees for Song of the Year received framed certificates as recognition for their exceptional contributions to the Namibian music industry. Additionally, the SOTY Winner, Ms Gideon, was presented with a trophy and received a return double ticket to any of Fly Namibia’s local destinations. Moreover, the winner received NAD 50,000 worth of radio airtime to further promote their music.

– Mega ft Gazza – “Backspin, Ghetto Ballerina ft Tswazi’s – “Storrie lorrie”, DJ Yessonia ft Goon Flavour & Hloni Fela – “Dali dali”, Water – “Na enjoyment”, Ethnix – “Dokota”, Pvge Ethnix & Champions League DJz- “Benefit”, Ms Gideon – “Jehova”, Yeezir – “Body do”, Araffath ft Ziki – “Omutima”, Epanda Rizzy & Araffath ft Nali Nomatemba – “Helele Mama”
The late Araffath Muhuure, popularly known as Araffath, was posthumously nominated for his songs “Araffath ft Ziki Mutima” and “Reezy & Araffath ft Nali Nomathemba – Helele mama.” This honorary mention serves as a tribute to his musical talent and contributions.
KayCee Butsche, Fresh FM’s Station Manager, expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “These awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding local musical achievements, as is expected from Namibia’s leading urban radio station.”
The first annual Fresh FM Song of the Year Awards were a resounding success, highlighting the exceptional talent within the Namibian music industry. Fresh FM remains committed to promoting and supporting local artists, and these awards serve as a testament to their dedication.
