The Omaruru Regional Court has granted an N$8 000 bail to it’s former mayor, Hendrina Gebhardt, and postponed the case to 4 December 2025, for plea and trial.
Gebhardt was arrested on Monday and charged under Section 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2003 for corruptly using her office for gratification.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) confirmed the arrest for allegedly using her position to influence the appointment of her brother, Samuel Gebhardt, as workshop foreman, at the Omaruru municipality, while she was mayor, in 2012.
According to the ACC, their investigations revealed that Samuel Gebhardt was not the most qualified candidate; did not achieve the highest interview score, yet he was appointed after the former mayor allegedly directed the sitting CEO to proceed with hiring him.
