In an exclusive interview with NewsOnOne’s Hertha Ekandjo, Dyna Mengela, the woman at the center of a rape allegation against former environment and tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta, has spoken publicly for the first time—detailing what she describes as a traumatic and complex series of events.
Mengela, who shares a child with Shifeta, alleges that she was raped by the former minister in the early hours of 21 March 2025 at her former residence in Suiderhof, Windhoek. “As stated in my official statement at the Gender-Based Violence Unit, he did indeed rape me that night,” Mengela said, adding that she has evidence proving his presence at her home during the incident.
She explained that her delay in reporting the incident was driven by fear, alleging that Shifeta threatened her with legal influence and claimed the case would never go anywhere. “He said he’s a lawyer and would make sure the case doesn’t proceed,” she said.
Despite the threats, Mengela said she decided to report the case due to mounting pressure from past intimidation and manipulation, including attempts to silence her regarding sensitive information involving the former minister and his business associates. “I was being mentally manipulated, always made to feel like I was in the wrong,” she said.
Mengela claims that Shifeta, even after marrying another woman, maintained access to her home by requesting a spare key under the pretext of continuing their relationship. She further alleges the incident on 21 March happened after he repeatedly called and later appeared at her home.
The former minister has yet to publicly respond to the allegations. Police have confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
