The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has condemned the online sharing of graphic photos showing a recently euthanised elephant, calling the images “irresponsible and distressing.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, Minister Indileni Daniel urged the public to exercise restraint and respect in how they share wildlife-related content online, particularly when it involves human-wildlife conflict incidents.
Daniel said the elephant had been put down following a thorough assessment by wildlife officers after it posed a serious threat to nearby communities.
The ministry reiterated its call for responsible social media conduct, noting that investigations into the incident are ongoing and further information will be shared through official channels.
