Agribank has introduced an Arrears Relief Rollout Programme to assist farmers struggling to meet their loan repayments. The initiative targets producers affected by drought, climate change, and global economic pressures.
Chief Executive Officer Dr. Raphael Karuaihe said many clients work diligently to stay on top of their obligations, but unpredictable weather patterns and limited market access have left some farming businesses under financial stress.
While an agricultural insurance product would ideally support farmers during crop failures or drought, Dr. Karuaihe explained that the risks are currently too high for Agribank to offer such cover. The new relief programme is designed to give farmers breathing space, particularly those facing prolonged drought conditions.
Agribank spokesperson Fillemon Nangonya gave additional details on the programme and how farmers can access support.
