Lisa Matomola, HR consultant, career coach, and CEO of IPM, has offered practical advice to young people navigating the job market, emphasizing preparation, confidence, and skill alignment. In an exclusive interview with NewsOnOne, Matomola explained the impact of automated recruitment systems, commonly known as ATS, on CV screenings. She advised applicants to tailor their CVs for each role and align keywords with job requirements to avoid automatic rejection.

Matomola highlighted that the plan to create 500,000 jobs over the next five years is an exciting yet challenging target. She urged that monitoring and evaluation systems be implemented to ensure meaningful job creation, particularly in the SME sector.

On career choices, Matomola recommended students explore fields like IT, data analytics, cybersecurity, agriculture, delivery services, and digital marketing. She stressed the importance of transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability, and encouraged young people to consider international opportunities, including remote work.

Matomola also shared guidance on interview success, emphasizing that confidence comes from knowledge, experience, and skills. She advised candidates to research prospective employers, prepare thoroughly, and maintain professional appearance and body language.

Finally, addressing young girls, Matomola shared an inspiring message: investing in yourself, being teachable, and pursuing your passion can lead to success. “Delay is not denial. You fail, but get up. There is a bright future,” she said, urging youth to focus on building skills, social impact, and personal branding.
