Background

Detective Inspector Pendukeni Nghuluwa has told the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court he cannot reveal the names of allegedly compromised police officers, saying this would endanger informants.

He testified that some officers and other officials are accused of tipping off drug dealers. Nghuluwa also said investigations are continuing, including with Interpol, and that the accused, Naomi Fisch, poses a flight risk, citing an unused passport issued in 2025 and alleged plans to relocate to South Africa.

The State is opposing bail, arguing there is a strong case and a risk of interference. Jemima Beukes, reporting for Future Media News, spoke to Chainbreaker support group member and recovering drug addict William Steenkamp, who is attending the court proceedings.
