Namibian police recorded eight cases of murder and attempted murder across the country over the weekend.
Police say most of the crimes were fuelled by alcohol, domestic disputes, and arguments that turned violent.
In Osire, a 32-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing another man three times during a fight over charcoal work. The victim is in a serious condition at Okakarara State Hospital.
In Oshakati, a 38-year-old woman, Ndinomuwa Helena Ester, was stabbed to death on Friday evening by a 36-year-old man who also assaulted her with a cooking stick. The suspect has been arrested.
At Rundu’s SuperSport Bar, 23-year-old Mbereshu Muremi Paulus died after a fight broke out over beer. The suspect, who was also injured, is receiving treatment under police guard.
In Windhoek’s Otjomuise area, a man sustained fractures to both legs after being hit by a vehicle during an argument. The suspect is still at large.
In Aranos, 32-year-old Alex Oupatjie Kondombolo was found in a pool of blood in nearby bushes after being attacked by five men. No arrests have been made.
In Okahandja, 23-year-old Pernadino Cloete was stabbed to death by his 17-year-old girlfriend after a domestic argument. The suspect handed herself over to the police.
In Grootfontein, a man was stabbed in the neck with a bottle near Choppies supermarket. He remains in critical condition.
And in Maltahöhe, a 24-year-old man was stabbed with broken bottles over a N$10 gambling dispute at a local bar. Both suspects are on the run.
