Police in Kavango West Region are looking for a man in connection with the deaths of his wife and son at Sipwi village.
This is follows the discovery of remain of an adult woman, believed to be Anastasia Mbunze Hausiku (36), and her baby in the bush near Gcarhuwa village on 11 October.
It is alleged that Hausiku and her baby left home in early August this year with her husband, reportedly on their way to the Gcarhuhwa Clinic.
Head of community policing, chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, said Hausiku’s family identified the remains based on the clothes found at the scene .
Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the missing man.
Hausiku’s uncle, Joseph Mapeu Sitarara, expressed grief, saying the family believes the remains belong to his niece and her baby, Norbert Hausiku.
Sitarara revealed that Hausiku had been in an abusive relationship with her husband, a traditional healer, despite the family’s repeated attempted repeated interventions.
“In August 2023, she was nearly hacked to death by the same man. I opened a case and he was arrested, but she later withdrew the charges. When she became pregnant again, he started accusing her of infidelity and threatened to kill her and the baby,” Sitarara added.
He further said that both the police and the Ministry of Gender Equality were aware of the ongoing domestic violence, as several cases had previously been opened against the husband.
“We are waiting for the DNA results. As we speak, all her children are staying with me. It is difficult to take care of them all, and even harder to explain what happened to their mother,” he said emotionally.
