The Rehoboth Town Council has provided clarity on several issues affecting residents, including recent power outages, street renaming delays, and ongoing municipal projects. Desiree Pieters, Public Relations Officer for the Council, offers her comment on the concerns raised by the public.
Regarding the scheduled power outages over the weekend, Pieters explained that these were planned maintenance activities communicated to the community via radios, social media, and posters at shops. “We also sent reminders on Friday before the outages,” she said, adding that unexpected faults due to aging infrastructure caused extended disruptions. She thanked residents for their patience and acknowledged the support of CENORED and NamPower in resolving the issues.
On the topic of street renaming, Pieters noted that Church Street’s renaming to Captain Hans Diergaardt Street was delayed due to technical reasons and concerns from some community members. She confirmed that the process will continue next week once all approvals and technical preparations are complete.
Pieters also addressed questions about agricultural plots and Reho Spa, noting that tenders for bungalow renovations have closed and contractors will soon be appointed. She assured the public that updates on timelines, successful bidders, and allocation processes will be communicated once available.
Highlighting the role of her office, Pieters stressed that the PR office works within Council regulations and always seeks approval from the CEO before releasing information. “Our office does not withhold information from the public,” she said, encouraging residents to contact her directly via phone, email, or social media for clarity rather than relying on rumors.
Through these updates, the Rehoboth Town Council aims to maintain transparency, improve service delivery, and keep residents informed about key municipal projects and decisions.
