A 60-year-old woman on Monday allegedly lost N$226 097 to a fraud scheme at a Bank Windhoek in Eenhana.

Ohangwena Police Crime Investigation Coordinator deputy Commissioner Melanie Mbuuru said the incident happened around 11:56.

Mbuuru indicated that the victim allegedly received a call from an individual claiming to be an official from MTC.

“The scammer falsely informed the victim that she had won a sum of money and, to claim it, needed to provide her bank details. The victim disclosed her Bank Windhoek account information, and soon after the funds were withdrawn from her account,” she said.

She added that the cash has not yet been recovered, and no arrests have been made. The suspect remains unknown.
